RMCG’s team members enjoyed attending and presenting at this year’s National Food Waste Summit held in Melbourne. The pivotal event, in the fight against food waste, included an impressive line-up of international speakers and Australian experts, united in addressing one of the most critical environmental challenges.
RMCG Consultant Ossie Lang (pictured above) presented the Potato Industry’s Post Harvest Food Loss Assessment work in northern Tasmania for End Food Waste. The assessment’s methodology was based on the work of Dr Lisa Johnson, an on-farm food waste measurement expert from the US. The project aimed to provide clear data on what was being left behind in the paddock after harvest, and some of the contributing factors to these figures.
Part of the Summit was a farm visit to Fresh Select at Werribee South, which included a hands-on demonstration from Lisa (pictured above) on how to measure and calculate on-farm food loss.
RMCG was also proud to sponsor the inaugural Australian Food Waste Challenge which was initiated by Rocket Seeder. RMCG Principal Dr Anne-Maree Boland assisted in the judging of the Pre-Farm Gate Waste category and congratulated the winner, Sam Musson from Zest Element by Liberty Loves Australia, for repurposing second grade fruit and moving-up the waste hierarchy.
