SUMMARY:CSIRO's Ending Plastic Waste Symposium 2024
DESCRIPTION:With plastic use estimated to double by 2040 and negotiations for a UN treaty for plastic pollution underway\, the time is now to tackle plastic waste. \nFollowing the successful Ending Plastic Waste Symposium in 2023\, we are partnering with RMIT University as host of the ARC TREMS Hub and the newly announced Solving Plastic Waste CRC to deliver the Ending Plastic Waste Symposium 2024 on Tuesday 6 August and Wednesday 7 August at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins. \nThe symposium covers:  \n\nPlastic design and materials\nAdvances in recycling and resource recovery \nBioderived and compostable plastics \nPlastic in the environment \nThe life cycle of plastic \nProduct packaging and design \nCircular economy and system perspectives \nInternational approaches\n\nRMCG Principal Dr Anne-Maree Boland is looking forward to facilitating the agricultural plastics session of the symposium. \n \nThe agricultural plastics session will cover current key issues\, challenges and opportunities of plastic wastes in agricultural systems. This includes sources and types of plastics used\, collection\, storage\, processing and recycling of plastic wastes\, development of new technologies\, management strategies\, government policy for diverse agroecosystems.

SUMMARY:2023 Energy from Waste Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) invites you to join us in Sydney on the 1-2 November for the 2023 Energy from Waste Conference (#2023EFW).\n\nEfw- The missing piece in Australia’s sustainable future\n \nAustralia’s national resource recovery rate currently stands at about 62% with over 27 million tons of material still being disposed of each year.  Unlike the EU\, Japan and other parts of the world\, Australia has not yet fully grasped the need or ability to capture energy from residual materials/products that are often poorly designed or genuinely cannot be recovered (for example hazardous or clinical material). \nAs we hasten towards 2030 and the target of 80% average resource recovery\, it’s important that we maximise all parts of the waste management hierarchy and work across the entire supply chain to create a sustainable future where resources are maximised\, and carbon and methane is minimised.  Whilst we wish all products were designed for re-use\, repair\, recycle\, the reality is that they are not and some simply cannot be.  Capturing energy can come in a number of formats – thermal\, pyrolysis\, anaerobic digestion just to name a few – and play a positive role in both managing this residual material and enhancing energy supply. \nWMRR’s Energy from Waste (EFW) Conference in Sydney will explore the role and types of EFW that exist\, and how we can use all levels of the waste management hierarchy to strategically manage material and build a sustainable future for Australia.
