South Australian grain producers are a a step closer to finding a circular economy recycling solution for the disposal of waste plastic grain silo bags.
The release of the Grain Silo Bag Circular Economy Feasibility study and report, commissioned by Grain Producers South Australia (SA), identified three different potential pathways for grain producers to recycle waste plastic silo bags. They were:
• Pathway 1 – Industry-wide drop-off and collection scheme
• Pathway 2 – Producer led onfarm pick-up and recycler delivery scheme
• Pathway 3 – Bag supplier led used silo bag return scheme.
While the report identified the potential three pathways, not one pathway was agreed on by all stakeholders or seen as affordable by grain producers.
Funding for the study was provided by a Circular Economy Market Development Grant (CEMDG) from Green Industries SA (Circular Economy Market Development Grants).
